Do I need wound care?

For most people, cuts and scratches heal within a few weeks. But for some, a simple sore can become a complex medical problem. Without proper treatment, these wounds can hamper your ability to stay active and enjoy your life. In some cases, these wounds can be debilitating.

Wound care programs are designed to address the complexity of injuries that won't heal. You might benefit from visiting our wound care center if:

  • Your wound is deep or large
  • You have both a wound—even if it's small—and diabetes
  • You have signs of infection, including swelling, warmth, redness or throbbing pain

Wound treatments you can trust

In our wound care center, we combine advanced technologies with proven clinical therapies to create personalized treatment plans. Outpatient and hospital-based, our program keeps you in your own environment—while providing the help you need to address your wounds. These are a few of the therapies we offer:

Pain management.

  • Laboratory evaluation of your wound
  • Debridement of your wound
  • Education about self-care for wounds

We can also connect you with other departments within CGH Medical Center that can help, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and endocrinology.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy: Innovative wound care

In addition to traditional wound treatments, we also offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). During a HBOT treatment, you will breathe 100 percent oxygen while relaxing in a pressurized chamber. This quickly delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream and the wound bed.

HBOT can:

  • Accelerate the healing process
  • Fight infection
  • Stimulate the growth of new blood vessels
  • Improve circulation
  • Reduce amputation rates

Our center features two state-of-the-art HBOT chambers. We use these therapies to treat wounds caused by diabetes, as well as wounds caused by crush injuries, osteomyelitis, skin grafts and brown recluse spider bites.
