Sports Medicine

Sports injuries can happen in the blink of an eye. One moment, you're reaching for the ball. The next, you're crumpled on the ground. At CGH Medical Center, we work hard to help our communities to stay healthy and active—so those sports injuries are less likely to occur. But we also understand that a drive to win can push athletes further and faster than their bodies are prepared for. We have an entire team that can help.

Athletes at every level of play—from elite athletes to weekend warriors—can count on high-quality, comprehensive care in our sports medicine department. Our goal is the same as yours: To keep you active for your entire athletic career and physically fit for life.

Sports medicine therapies you can trust

When you come to the sports medicine team for care, we create a treatment plan that's as individual as you are. We'll assess what's happening with your body right now and what demands your sport is placing on it.

We can provide treatment for common sports injury issues, such as:

  • Contusions
  • Dislocations
  • Fractures
  • Pain management
  • Shoulder complications
  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Tendonitis

We have quality imaging equipment that can help us evaluate your injuries, and we can use nonoperative and operative (arthroscopic and open surgery) solutions for musculoskeletal injuries involving the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle.

We also offer therapies that can keep you from developing a sports injury in the future. We provide preseason physicals, conditioning programs and more to help ensure that your body is well-positioned for the demands of your sport.

Sports rehabilitation services to help you heal

When it comes to your recovery, our team won't stop until your comeback is complete. For neck, back, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle injuries, you'll work side by side with CGH Medical Center's licensed physical and occupational therapists and their assistants.

This team can offer:

  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Pre- and post-surgical evaluations and treatment plans
  • Exercise prescriptions
  • Strength and conditioning training

The Sports Concussion Program: Helping local athletes

As a regional leader in healthcare, CGH Medical Center has a long tradition of providing programs to the community that benefit its health and safety. Our Sports Concussion Program is one such program.

Our program has three goals:

  • To educate athletes, parents and coaches about preventing, diagnosing and treating concussions
  • To establish a communication network between coaches, parents and our CGH Sports Concussion Clinic
  • To provide comprehensive care to athletes dealing with concussion recovery

We offer seminars, both in-person and online, filled with concussion education information. And we work closely with schools to evaluate their injured athletes, offer concussion recovery services and help those athletes return to play safely. Download the booklet here.

Sports nutrition training to help you fuel up

While orthopedic factors play a role in your ability to succeed in sports, the food and drink you provide your body can also play a part. We offer a sports nutrition program that can help you understand your nutritional requirements for maximum performance.

Our dietitians provide:

  • Bone-loss prevention strategies
  • Caloric assessments
  • Diet evaluations
  • Food allergy testing
  • Weight control advice
