Construction is now complete on the $8.6 million expansion and renovation of CGH Medical Center’s Emergency Department.

The 22,500 square foot department will feature 25 private treatment rooms, 2 trauma rooms containing 2 to 3 additional beds, six patient Easy Care (EC) bays, three triage rooms, as well as a streamlined patient registration and triage process.

The new-and-renovated addition took just over 14 months to complete, and approval from the Illinois Department of Public Health is expected by early April.

"We're very excited to have the new part of this project available to us in the near future," said Shirley Wolford, Emergency Department Director, pictured bottom left. "With the additional space, we will be able to provide more personalized, private care and comfort for our patients."

To view the new space before it officially opens for patients, a Community Open Houses will be held on Tuesday, March 24 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Community members will receive guided tours of the new department and refreshments will be served.

"We are committed to meeting our expanding patient needs," added Cindy Zander, CGH Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. "The newly designed ED will better serve our communities long into the future."
