CGH Recognizes Sunshine Award Winner Nicole Pitts

Contact: Rebecca Green
Nicole Pitts, a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the CGH Surgical Unit, was recently recognized as a recipient of the Sunshine Award for extraordinary service. The Sunshine Award was created to honor and recognize outstanding service and compassionate care by those in non-nursing roles, such as CNAs, CMTs or MAs.
“Nicole took time with a patient who was unable to express many of her needs clearly,” said Stephanie Waller, RN, Digestive Health Center, and Sunshine Award Coordinator. “She was very patient throughout the weekend, and not only took time to talk with the patient, but also listened closely to what the patient was trying to say and did everything in her power to tend to her needs. She cared for this patient - as she cares for ALL her patients - the way we would want our loved ones treated if they were in the hospital. She held the patient’s hand when they were fearful or crying, and she helped her stay calm and relaxed. Nicole is a valued member of the Surgical Floor staff who always goes above and beyond the call of duty when caring for patients.”
Other CGH staff nominated by our patients this quarter for the Sunshine award included: Shandi Armstrong, CNA, and Tammy Vinson, CMT.
