CGH Medical Center is joining medical laboratory professionals across the state and country this week to honor national Medical Laboratory Professionals Week. This week recognizes the contributions of the scientific and technical personnel whose work in medical/clinical laboratory helps give our nation the best possible health care.
“It is highly appropriate that we celebrate the laboratory scientists, phlebotomists, laboratory technicians, and other providers who choose to use their lives to serve our community,” said Dr. Paul Steinke, President and CEO of CGH Medical Center. “We truly appreciate their skill and dedication to our patients and families.”
This year, during the COVID-19 pandemic, many are focused on testing and testing results, which are performed by medical laboratory professionals. CGH says thank you to our medical laboratory professionals!
About 60-70% of all medical decisions are based on laboratory results. On average, CGH sees 73,000 outpatients a year at the hospital and the clinic labs. Our talented team of phlebotomists and laboratory technicians perform tests in our clinical laboratory. Many of the services performed in our laboratories include, but are not limited to: blood typing, blood transfusions, glucose tests, urine analysis, throat cultures, and tissue blocks.
Medical Laboratory Professionals Week originated in 1975 as National Medical Laboratory Week through the American Society for Medical Technology, now called the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. The celebration is to increase recognition for the profession and serves as a reminder that quality laboratory results can lead to a healthier life.
