STERLING, IL (November 30, 2016)Two major contributions were highlighted and Tree of Life honorees recognized during Thursday’s CGH Health Foundation Annual Appeal reception held at the CGH Main Clinic Atrium.

In addition to the $325,000 raised for the annual drive, donations totaling nearly $400,000 were announced for the recent Oncology Department renovation and purchase of a new stereotactic breast biopsy table for the CGH Women’s Imaging Center.

“With the number of cancer patients rising to just over 6,000 last year, the oncology project was something we felt impacted or would impact many more people in the Sauk Valley,” said Foundation Chair Marty Benson, who also served as campaign chair for the second year in a row.

“The new breast biopsy table is designed to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for patients, while producing superior clinical results,” according to Gina Grennan, director of CGH Women’s Imaging Center.

The reception was held in conjunction with an oncology department open house. Oncologist Dr. Mir Alikhan praised the recent facelift and talked about the impact it will have on patients. The patient chemotherapy bay was upgraded, the procedure room and blood draw bay were expanded, and a restroom was added.
