Why Jill Was Chosen CGH Employee of the Month
Jill was nominated by the son of a patient she cared for. He wrote: “My mother received excellent care from the doctors, nurses and everyone at the hospital. One nurse, Jill Gonigam, cared for my mother as if she were her own—talking to her, singing to her and even sitting in the room to do some of her paperwork so that I would not be alone. If nurses could have wings, she certainly should have them. I felt that my mother died a peaceful death knowing that she was loved. I did not or did not want to understand some of the things that were going on or what the doctors were trying to tell me. Jill sat down with me and explained what was happening to my mother, explained her condition and what the doctors were doing. She stayed right with me, holding both my hand and my mother’s. After mom’s death, she closed the door to the room and left me to cry and grieve, but stayed right outside the door until I was ready to move on to what had to come next.”
“If it had not been for Jill, I could not have gone through it without going completely to pieces.”
Another great example of going the extra mile for a patient and their family.
