| Sports Medicine & Shoulder Services

Common sports injuries include contusions, sprains, strains, tendinitis, fractures, dislocations, and concussions. The Sports Medicine Team provides non-operative and operative (arthroscopic and open surgery) care for all of these injuries.
Additional service available to athletes also include preseason physical evaluations, medical care for issues relevant to an athlete’s health (e.g. asthma, diabetes), physical rehabilitation, conditioning programs, imaging, pain management, and nutrition.
Common areas of pain around the shoulder include the glenohumeral joint, the acromioclavicular (AC) joint, the sternoclavicular joint, and the scapulothoracic space. Causes of shoulder pain in athletes include rotator cuff disease ranging from tendinitis to tears, shoulder instability after a dislocation, labral tears, shoulder arthritis, AC joint separation, and fractures. The Shoulder Service provides non-operative and operative care to patients with these problems. Operative care includes arthroscopic or open surgery: rotator cuff repairs, shoulder stablization, shoulder replacement, and cartilage restoration.
