CGH Medical Center is a progressive acute care facility located in the Rock River Valley region of Northern Illinois. Inpatient services include a 36-bed medical unit, a 28-bed surgical unit, 10 birthing center suites, 6 pediatric beds, and 18 CCU/ICU/Biotelemetry beds. Outpatient services include a state-of-the-art Cath Lab and a CAP accredited laboratory. Diagnostic imaging services include a 64-ring CT scanner, nuclear medicine with SPECT scanning, ultrasound, dedicated mammography including digital mammography and an in-house, high field MRI. Other departments and services include a neurology laboratory, a GI laboratory and nutritional support, pain management, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy. In addition, CGH offers an ambulatory surgical center, a Digestive Health Center, physical and occupational therapy, a diabetic education department, a wound care center, pre-hospital paramedic level EMS, and a 24-hour trauma ready emergency department. CGH operates its own Day Care Center adjacent to the campus.
CGH's service area includes 105,000 people. The job base is both agricultural and industrial. Eastern Whiteside County - population 59,000 - is CGH's main service area and produces 80% of yearly patient volume.
During our fiscal year 2013, CGH and its 14 satellite facilities provided more than $37.7 million in free and discounted care to the communities we serve. Care provided to patients without insurance or other financial means to pay for their treatment have a major influence on the financial performance of hospitals and clinics. These services are comprised of charity care provided to patients who cannot afford medical care, or patients who cannot pay their medical bills. CGH has offered programs that provide deep discounts to patients without insurance for the past few years. Charity care, bad debt, and self-pay discounts combined increased $767,419 as compared with the past fiscal year. CGH also continuously gives back to our community through community sponsorships; donations and support; community partnerships; and supplementation of Community Services and Foundation programs, which provide for the health and wellness of our community.
In FY2013, CGH Medical Center and its subsidiaries operated on a total budget of over $180 million. Annual adult admissions in 2013 reached 6,182 and 538 babies were born. CGH had a total of 18,127 adult and pediatric patient days in 2013. Surgical patient procedures totaled 3,749 and the Emergency Department had 28,649 patient encounters. The cardiac cath lab completed its eighth year by performing 1,281 heart procedures. In FY2013, CGH has a payer mix which includes: 47.1% Medicare, 17.3% commercial insurance, 14.2% Blue Cross, 13.6% Medicaid, self-pay/all others 7.8%. CGH derived approximately 76% of its total operating revenues from hospital based inpatient care and outpatient services, 2% from the Illinois Medicaid Hospital Assessment program, 19% from CGH Health Clinics and CGH Main Clinic physician services, and 3% from other operating revenue sources.
