Breast Health Care at CGH is Second to None!
An outpouring of support for new breast cancer services has led to an expansion of the existing Women's Cancer Prevention Program. Leading this year's campaign are nurse practitioner Jan Andersen and Foundation trustee Marty Benson. This year's goal is to raise $260,000. The two will also oversee efforts to seek another $115,000 for purchase of the breast ultrasound component of a new scanner for CGH.

"We pay special tribute to the late radiologist Dr. Surjit Hermon, whose dream it was to bring a state-of-the-art breast ultrasound scanner to the hospital," said Jan and Marty. Serving as Honorary Co-Chair with them is his wife, Dr. Manorama Hermon, a local pediatrician. READ Dr. Manorama Hermon's letter here.

Along with the new breast MRI that CGH has recently added, the technology that will be available for our patients will be second to none, according to Medical Division Chair Dr. Thomas McGlone, who is one of 75 surgeons nationwide certified to perform breast ultrasound. "No matter what the level of diagnostics that is required, we will have the full complement of options," he said.

New services, as noted in the box below, will further assist underserved women in taking care of their overall health.

 Women's Health additions
 * Offer pamper bags to breast cancer patients
 * Fund lymph edema treatment prosthesis, garments
 * Sponsor 2-for-1 mammogram promotion
 * Purchase phone, gas cards for underserved
 * Provide cardiac risk screenings, cholesterol and glucose assessments and bone density screenings for underserved

Purchase of this high resolution ultrasound imaging equipment,
with the capability to reconstruct images in three dimensions,
will lead to more accurate diagnosis and treatment of breast masses,
both benign and malignant.

The CGH Health Foundation is dedicated to enriching the quality of life for our area citizens and generations to come. In all our efforts, we will be compassionate to the needs of our donors. The Foundation is the philanthropic 501(c)3 organization for all charitable contributions made to CGH Medical Center.
