Breast Ultrasound
Breast ultrasound, or high-definition imaging, is a procedure generally used to compliment mammography. Breast ultrasounds are used to more closely evaluate an area seen on a mammogram, a palpable breast lump or an area of pain within the breast. The resulting images are very helpful in distinguishing between fluid-filled cysts and solid breast masses. The quick availability of this information helps radiologists and surgeons determine if there is a need for a biopsy. Generally, breast ultrasounds are painless, typically requiring no more than 30 minutes to perform.
