Facts On Diabetes
Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin; a hormone, which is needed to convert sugar and starches into the energy needed for daily life. Once you have diabetes you will have it for life. Changing your lifestyle is a key factor. The CGH Medical Center Diabetes Center is dedicated to assisting the person with diabetes in living a more independent and satisfying life. Our program focuses on managing diet and activity, monitoring blood glucose levels, and providing education as the cornerstones of controlling this disease.  Diabetes education is a continuous process. Whether you have been newly diagnosed or have been living with the disease for years, an individualized consultation can help you achieve better management and more independence.  Education is powerful. The more you know about your diabetes the better you will be able to manage your blood sugars.  The CGH Medical Center Diabetes Center staff is prepared to work with you to help make living with diabetes easier.

Consult with a Diabetes Educator
Individual counseling sessions with a diabetes educator will provide you with a plan of action for living with diabetes ~ one that is tailored to you and your lifestyle.

Diabetes Classes
Diabetes classes are held each week using a curriculum approved by the American Diabetes Association.   The classes provide you with information that is easy for you to implement.   Open discussion during the classes gives participants the opportunity to ask questions and learn about a wide variety of topics related to diabetes.
Diabetes Support Group
A free support group meets the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 pm. The support group meets in the Ryberg Auditorium at CGH Medical Center and is open to all everyone.  A guest speaker is scheduled for each meet.
American Diabetes Association ( ADA ) Recognized Education Program
The CGH Medical Center has achieved American Diabetes Association Recognition Status for over 10 years. Recognition status indicates our program provides education that meets the rigorous standards set by the ADA . Our Diabetes Center patient outcomes are assessed annually.  We consistently provide care that exceeds the American Diabetes Association recommendations for ADA recognition status.
